NEW HAVEN, Conn. - West Chester University's women's swimming & diving squad topped host Southern Connecticut State University, 131-96, Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Rams captured seven events in the meet, highlighted by an individual win and a relay win from both Leah Varvaro and Megan Winslow. Varvaro won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 00.28 seconds and helped the 400 medley relay team to a win with a 4:05.29 time. Winslow won the 200 backstroke in 2:10.71, along with leading off the 400 medley relay.
Kendall Somer led four West Chester swimmers to the wall in the 1000 free as the Golden Rams took the top four spots. Somer put up a time of 10:43.34. Codyanne Murtaugh was second with a time of 11:04.05. Courtney Wallace was third (11:07.12) and Kathy Mast (11:21.25) fourth.
Megan Corcoran led three Golden Rams to the finish in the 50 free with a time of 25.75. Christie Stern was runner-up (26.01) and Lauren Carastro third (26.06).
Mackey McGeary won the 500 free, touching the wall in 5:21.00 with Murtaugh placeing second in 5:22.96.
Kelsey Tennett won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 273.89. She was second in the 3m springboard competition with a score of 269.99. Michelle Murphy was third with 258 points while Michelle Heineman was fourth.
West Chester returns home next Friday for a non-league meet against Division I Penn at Graham Natatorium.
