Golden Rams Take Care Of Cheyney, 84-62

CHEYNEY, Pa. – Ambreelinne Ortman had 17 points and West Chester lit up the scoreboard from beyond the 3-point arc en route to an 84-62 PSAC women’s basketball victory over cross-county rival Cheyney inside Cope Hall Wednesday evening.
 
West Chester (14-3, 10-3 PSAC) equaled its best start in league play since 2004-05 while increasing its season-high win streak to six straight while Cheyney (0-17, 0-13) remains winless on the year. It marked WCU’s 50th win over rival Cheyney in the overall series, which now stands at 50-11 in the Rams’ favor.
 
The Golden Rams drained 7 of 10 attempts from behind the 3-point line in the first half to run out to a 40-26 advantage by the break. Elliott scored 11 of her team-high 18 points in the first half, nailing all three 3-point attempts. West Chester went 11-for-18 from downtown in the contest.
 
Senior guard Allison Hostetter became just the second player in school history to reach 1,000 points, 600 rebounds and 300 assists with her 300th helper at the 9:37 mark of the first half after Ortman knocked down a 3-pointer from NBA range.
 
Paige Elliott followed up her career-high 20 points on Saturday with 16, and Alexandra Lennon posted eight points and 11 rebounds.
 
West Chester continues its two-game road swing at East Stroudsburg on Saturday. Tip-off inside Koehler Fieldhouse is set for 1 p.m.
