West Chester Women Run Past Mansfield, 92-66

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Ambreelinne Ortman scored a team-high 19 points, and West Chester put five players in double figures, as the host Golden Rams downed visiting Mansfield, 92-66, in a PSAC women’s basketball contest inside Hollinger Field House Wednesday evening.
 
West Chester (15-4, 11-4 PSAC) remains in a tie for first place with Bloomsburg, who defeated Millersville. The Marauders squandered a 21-point halftime lead at home in that loss. Mansfield falls to 7-12 overall and 4-11 in conference play.
 
In a well-rounded effort both on the defensive and offensive sides of the floor, the Golden Rams produced their highest point total of the year since defeating Clarion back on December 4 when they reached triple digits. West Chester shot 48.6 percent from the field and spread the ball around for 22 assists. Meghan Kerrigan and Allison Hostetter led West Chester with seven and six assists, respectively.
                                   
Defensively, the Golden Rams were impressive as well and really changed the course of the contest. Mansfield committed 30 turnovers with West Chester’s full court press the main cause.
 
The Mountaineers outrebounded the Golden Rams (46-36) and were kept in the game by the PSAC’s leading scorer, Mallory Moore, who finished with 29 total points on 12-for-21 shooting. Moore caused headaches for the Golden Rams all night long and contributed heavily on the defensive end as well. The Marauders shot 41.3 percent from the field, and shot 50.0 percent from behind the 3-point arc. But, the turnover differential was the key difference in the contest.
                                   
The Marauders jumped to an early lead, leading by five early on in the first half. The Golden Rams stormed back to take the lead and control of the game, eventually leading by as much as 35, thanks to early runs in the second half.

Hostetter finished with 14 points and nine rebounds to go along with her seven assists. Shamyra Hammond contributed 13 off the bench while Lennon posted 12 points and blocked four shots. Kendall Benovy scored 10 points and grabbed six boards.
 
Mansfield’s Jenna Matter posted 11 points while Kayla Espigh finished strong with eight points off the bench.
 
West Chester will be in action this Saturday against Millersville at 2 p.m., the opener of a doubleheader with the men’s team to follow at 4 p.m.
