CLERMONT, Fla. – Charlotte Conaway went a combined 4-for-6 with five RBI and three runs scored, and Kim Murl and Kate Skokowski each pitched complete games to lead West Chester to a sweep of its two contests at the National Training Center in Clermont Monday morning.
West Chester (11-6) improved its winning streak to a season-high four games with a pair of shortened affairs against Saint Michael’s and Nyack. The Golden Rams downed Saint Michael’s by a score of 8-0 after five innings while also topping Nyack, 11-3, in five frames.
Murl (4-3) tossed a complete-game shutout in the opener at 9 a.m. against the Purple Knights of Saint Michael’s. She scattered four hits over five innings, walking one and striking out one. It marked Murl’s first shutout of the season and third in her career.
Conaway went 1-for-2 with a two-run single in the fifth that plated the seventh and eighth runs of the game, ending the tilt due to the eight-run rule. Jess Russ was 3-for-3 while Nicole Cruts went 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBI.
In the second game of the morning, Skokowski (2-0) made her first start inside the circle in 2012 and picked up the win, allowing three runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out two. It was just the sixth start of her college career and came off a week in which she won a game in relief on Saturday, after earning her first career save in West Chester’s other contest Saturday. Skokowski did not face more than four batters in any inning until Nyack finally got to her in the fifth and plated three runs.
Conaway was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Jess Russ knocked in a pair of runs, and Megan Kelly went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
West Chester plated six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the game short. Five of those runs were unearned. Erin Quense ended the game with a run-scoring single.
The Golden Rams are off until Wednesday when they take on Saint Leo’s and Bridgeport.
