CLERMONT, Fla. – West Chester junior righ-hander Kate Skokowski tossed a five-inning no-hitter as the Golden Rams routed St. Michael’s, 18-0, in the first of two games Friday morning at the National Training Center. West Chester fell to Alderson-Broaddus, 3-2 in eight innings, in the second game.
Skokowski (3-1), had her perfect game spoiled with two outs in the fifth inning when she ran the count full Brittany Cantore before walking the No. 6 hitter. Skokowski faced just one batter over the minimum to pick up her third win of the season. However, the junior hurler suffered the loss in relief in game two against Alderson-Broaddus (7-8).
Kelly Anderson was 2-for-4 with four RBI in the win over St. Michael’s. Abby Block, J.P. Norris and Kelsey Hannold each plated three runs as well. All nine starters in West Chester’s lineup registered a base hit as the Rams posted 18 hits. In fact, seven of the nine recorded more than one hit. Four St. Michael’s errors led to 15 unearned runs in the contest.
West Chester scored one run in the first and then broke things open with eight in the second and nine in the third.
In the nightcap, West Chester scored a run in the top of the eighth to take a 2-1 lead. However, Alderson-Broaddus pushed two runs across with one out in the bottom of the eighth to win the game.
Norris hit a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth to put the Rams on top 1-0. The Battlers evened things up with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to send the tilt into extra innings. Kelly Anderson singled home Norris, who was placed on second base per tie-breaker rules.
Devon Utterback started the game and pitched the first six innings without allowing a run. She walked four and struck out six.
Jess Russ was 2-for-4 and Jess Schuck went 2-for-3 at the plate.
West Chester hosts Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday, March 21 in a doubleheader that was originally scheduled to be played in Delaware. That twinbill has been moved to West Chester at 3 p.m.
