WEST CHESTER, Pa. – A six-run fourth inning capped a come-from-behind victory in game two as host West Chester swept visiting Goldey-Beacom, 5-1 and 9-5, in a non-league softball doubleheader on South Campus Wednesday afternoon.

West Chester (15-10) has now won four of its last five before heading into conference play on Friday. Goldey Beacom (11-8) was swept in a double dip for the second time in as many days, after realing off 10 straight wins.

The Golden Rams’ first four hitters combined to go 7-for-16 with six RBI in game two. Charlotte Conaway and Nicole Cruts each had a RBI double while Jess Russ rapped out a pair of run-scoring singles. WCU plated five of its six runs in the decisive fourth inning with two outs. Kelly Anderson had a two-run single in that frame as well.

Devon Utterback (7-4) came on in relief with one out in the top of the fourth inning and finished the rest of the way to pick up her second victory of the afternoon. She tossed a complete-game, three-hitter in the opener as well.

GBC had jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a four-spot in the third. West Chester starter Kate Skokowski lasted 2.2 innings, yielding four runs on three hits, walking three and striking out one. Kim Murl got the Rams out of the inning. However, she got only one out in the fourth, before Utterback was summoned from the bullpen to close out the frame and take WCU home from there. Utterback gave up three hits and one run in her relief win in game two.

Cruts went 2-for-3 with a RBI and another double in the first game to lead the offensive charge.

West Chester hosts Millersville on Friday in the PSAC East opener for both schools. Doubleheader begins at 2 p.m.

NOTES: Nicole Cruts takes over the batting lead on the squad with a .395 average throughout the Golden Rams’ non-conference slate … she poked three doubles on the day to tie Charlotte Conaway for the team lead … Cruts has now reached base safely in each of her last 10 games … Devon Utterback has picked up a win in each of her last three decisions … she pitched a perfect game through four innings in game one … she only allowed a base runner in the fifth and sixth innings.
