WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Kelly Anderson went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI, including the game-winning two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning of game two that ended the tilt due to the eight-run rule, as West Chester earned a split of a non-league doubleheader with Philadelphia University Tuesday afternoon.
West Chester (7-5) fell 3-2 in the opener, before taking the nightcap, 11-3. Philadelphia University (1-1) was stepping on the diamond for the first time this spring.
The Golden Rams sent 12 batters to the plate and scored eight runs in the fourth inning of game two that broke open a 2-1 ballgame that stood in favor of PhilaU before the frame started. West Chester then added a pair of runs in the fifth to push the lead to eight. Abby Block hit a two-run double and J.P. Norris a two-run single in the big fourth inning.
Charlotte Conaway went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and Megan Kelly registered a pair of hits in the nightcap as well. Devon Utterback (4-2) tossed a complete game to pick up the win. She allowed three runs, two of them earned, on five hits, struck out seven and walked two.
Philadelphia University scored three unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie in the opener and then held on for a win. Nikki Troisi (1-0) allowed just a pair of unearned runs on six hits in going the distance for the Rams to get the win. Kim Murl (2-3) lasted five innings, yielding three runs, two earned, on five hits. Freshman Kelsey Hannold threw the final two innings, giving up three runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits.
Jill Murray went 3-for-3 at the plate.
West Chester will travel south for spring break next week to play 13 games from March 9 thru 16.
