WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Ashley Saylor and Melissa McKeary each scored a goal and registered an assist as West Chester University shut out visiting Philadelphia University, 4-0, on a hot and humid Saturday afternoon on South Campus.
West Chester (4-0) used another outstanding second-half performance to distance itself from their counterparts. The Golden Rams have now outscored their opponents, 8-0, after halftime in two games this fall.
Marie D’Angelo finished off a corner kick opportunity in the 33rd minute to stake the hosts to a 1-0 halftime advantage. McKeary and Saylor then tallied two minutes apart early in the second half to push that lead to 3-0. Noelle Harner closed out the scoring in the 67th minute off an assist from McKeary.
Sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Fedyk made five saves in recording her second shutout of the season. Kelli Kowalewski started in goal for Philadelphia, making four saves and yielding three goals, before exiting in the 65th minute. Courtney Shaw replaced her and went the distance picking up three saves and allowing the final tally.
West Chester will travel to Indiana (Pa.) on Wednesday for its first road contest of the season. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
