WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Cara Deola scored the only goal of the game in the 85th minute to lift 12th-ranked West Chester University to a 1-0 victory over 20th-ranked Edinboro on a sunny, but windy Saturday afternoon on South Campus.
West Chester (6-0, 3-0 PSAC) moves into a tie for first place with Edinboro (5-1, 3-1 PSAC) as a result of the win. The Golden Rams also moved their season-opening win streak to six straight.
Each side came into the contest with goalkeepers sporting a 0.20 goals-against average and two of the best defenses in front of them. Both sides realized that the first goal would mean all the difference in such a tight game.
Deola finally broke through with five minutes remaining beating Edinboro keeper Meghan Kelly from the right side of the net.
Kelly made five saves in the match while West Chester’s Shannon Fedyk (6-0) was credited with two.
West Chester travels to Shippensburg for a Wednesday night affair under the lights at 7:30 p.m.
