ERIE, Pa. - Marie D'Angelo scored all three goals as fourth-ranked West Chester University topped host Mercyhurst, 3-1, to remain perfect in a PSAC women's soccer matchup Friday afternoon.
West Chester (9-0, 6-0 PSAC) remains atop the PSAC standings with the win.
West Chester scored first at the 11:54 mark when sophomore Ashley Saylor set up D'Angelo with a cross. Mercyhurst would tie at 1-1 later in the half on a penalty kick. Senior Sara Hawksworth took full advantage of the penalty kick, beating the Golden Rams goaltender Shannon Fedyk with a placement in the right-hand corner.
The Golden Rams wasted no time after halftime, scoring two minutes into the half. D'Angelo again would receive a cross through the top of the goalie box from junior Lexi Lentz. D'Angelo would complete her hat trick in the 57th minute off of a pass from senior Melissa McKeary.
Fedyk , a sophomore, is undefeated in the net (9-0), making four saves and allowing one goal against the Lakers. Freshman Ellie McDougall (3-5) made four saves and allowed three goals while in net.
West Chester travels to Gannon on Saturday for what should be a much-anticipated showdown with the Golden Knights.
