ERIE, Pa. – West Chester’s goal in the 62nd minute lifting the visiting Golden Rams to a PSAC women’s soccer win against host and 24th-ranked Gannon, 2-1, on Saturday evening.
The Golden Rams capitalized on a corner kick opportunity at the 61:29 mark as the ball deflected off a Gannon defender and skirted into the back of the net.
West Chester scored just 5:01 into the contest as Jen Hutchinson scored an unassisted goal. Gannon was able to tie the score at 1-1 in the 34th minute when Sammy Valloud scored on Mani Brueckner’s crossing pass.
The two squads ended the first half of play tied 1-1.
West Chester goalkeeper Shannon Fedyk made eight saves. Gannon keeper Sarah Geffel had four stops in the loss.
Gannon (8-2, 5-2 PSAC) outshot West Chester (10-0, 7-0 PSAC), 16-10, but the Golden Rams had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
West Chester will be back in the pitch Oct. 6 at Kutztown for a 1 p.m. match.
