WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Carly Yost headed home a
Lexi Lentz corner in the first half to help lead West Chester to a 3-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory over Seton Hill, Saturday afternoon on South Campus Field.
The Golden Rams 10-4-0, 9-4-0 PSAC) added second half goals from
Dana Hunt and
Ashley Saylor. Allison Mello scored for Seton Hill (4-10-1, 2-10-1 PSAC).
West Chester controlled the action and had several glorious opportunities to break the dead lock in the first 35 minutes of action, but Seton Hill keeper
Bethany Winter kept the Rams off the board.
Lexi Brown was sent in alone by Hunt in the 21
st minute, but her breakaway shot was blocked aside by the keeper. Carly Yost crossed the ball into the box to an on-rushing
Maddy Baretti, but her attempt was smothered by Winter in 25
th minute.
Finally, a West Chester attack earned a corner, and Yost headed in the Lexi Lentz cross for her seventh of the year in the 33
rd minute to give the Golden Rams a 1-0 lead going to the half.
Cara Deola used her speed to get by a defender on the right wing, and set up Dana Hunt in the box to widen the lead in the 69
th minute.
Ashley Saylor closed the scoring when
Nikki Lynch used her speed to get open and send the junior in alone, and she made no mistake in beating the keeper on the short side.
Scarlett Walsh intercepted the ball at midfield to send Lynch on her way.
Alex Srolis made two saves in goal for West Chester to earn the victory. Bethany Winter kept eight shots out of the Griffins net, in goal for Seton Hill.
The Golden Rams travel west for a pair of PSAC games next weekend. Friday at 12:30 p.m., West Chester faces California, (Pa.), and on Saturday the Rams take on Slippery Rock at 1 p.m.
