WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Carly Yost, scored an insurance goal, and assisted on the opening tally midway through the second half, to lead West Chester University to a 2-0 victory over, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, on a hot and sunny Wednesday afternoon in West Chester.
The Golden Rams (6-3, 5-3 PSAC) ran their winning streak to five, the last three coming without surrendering a goal. IUP (4-5-1, 3-5-1 PSAC) had the best chance to score in the first half, but a header from in front of the net by forward
Tony Fabian sailed over the crossbar.
West Chester broke the scoreless tie when Yost sent a perfectly weighted through-ball behind the defense to put
Lexi Brown in alone on the keeper. Brown made no mistake sliding a right footed shot past the keeper and into the open left hand corner, to give West Chester a 1-0 lead, in the 66
th minute.
Yost scored to give the Golden Rams some breathing room, heading a corner kick by Lexi Lentz into the right side of the goal in the 79th minute.
IUP appeared to have scored on a shot by
Kiersten Zerbe 10 minutes into the second half, but her attempt careened off the inside of the far post and across the front of the goal and out of harms way.
Brown also hit the cross bar in the 69
th minute off a scramble in front of the net.
Alex Srolis made four saves in net for West Chester recording her third straight shutout. Mara Hricik in goal for IUP was credited with one save.
West Chester is next in action on Saturday, for a conference match at Clarion starting at 1 PM. The Golden Rams return home on Tuesday for a 1PM kickoff vs PSAC foe Shippensburg.
