Stef Pirri Propels Field Hockey to 4-0 Win Over Kutztown

Box Score
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Stef Pirri scored twice and added an assist to lead West Chester to a 4-0 victory over Kutztown in PSAC action on a chilly Wednesday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.

West Chester University's field hockey team joined hands with the National Foundation for Cancer Research to participate in its fundraising campaign titled "Play4theCure". The Golden Rams raised funds during the game versus Kutztown on Wednesday, buy selling wrist bands, t-shirts, and collecting donations. All proceeds from the event were donated to the foundation.

The Golden Rams (10-4, 5-2 PSAC) have picked up consecutive shutouts after not registering a shutout in its first dozen games. Kutztown (5-8, 2-5 PSAC), kept West Chester off the board in the second half.

Pirri opened the scoring 10 minutes in when she gathered a loose ball just outside the scoring area and maneuvered her way through the center of the Kutztown defense to give herself a clear shot and give West Chester a 1-0 lead.

Megan Callanan made it 2-0 two minutes later with a perfectly timed deflection, into the top corner of the net off a shot-pass, from Pirri. It was number 10 on the season for the senior, and her third in two games.

"That was probably the prettiest goal of the year," Coach Amy Cohen said.

In the 27th minute, Pirri went on a solo run again stickhandling through the defense on the right side, before putting home her sixth of the year and second of the game.

Lauren McGinley closed out the scoring, with her fifth of the campaign, when she deflected in a Kelsi Lykens shot with three and a half minutes left in the half.

Audree Bonavita stopped one Kutztown shot in goal for West Chester. Kayla Denlinger started for the Bears and made three saves in the first half. Rachael Sanders played the second half and also was credited with three saves in the Kutztown net.

The Golden Rams travel to Mansfield for a PSAC contest with an early 11 a.m. start on Saturday.
