West Chester Women Split Tri-Meet with Bloomsburg and Lehigh

Meet Results

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester's women's swimming & diving squad split its tri-meet with visiting Bloomsburg and Division I foe Lehigh Saturday night inside Graham Natatorium. The Golden Rams defeated PSAC rival Bloomsburg, 170-53, while falling to Lehigh, 128.5-97.5.

Senior Megan Winslow and junior Kendall Somer each turned in outstanding performances. Winslow won the 200-yard individual medley and the 200 backstroke while Somer won the 200 breaststroke and placed third in the 1000 freestyle behind two Lehigh swimmers. Diver Michelle Heinemann was the only other double winner for the Golden Rams on the night.

Winslow touched the wall in 2 minutes, 10.11 seconds to win the 200 IM. Her time of 2:15.37 in the 200 backstroke was also good for first place. Somer scored a time of 2:23.68 to win the 200 breaststroke. She also posted a time of 10:34.44 in the 1000 that was bested only by a pair of DI swimmers.

"(Winslow and Somer's) times are typically not what you see this early in the season," WCU head coach Jamie Rudisill commented about his upperclassmen's winning times.

Heinemann scored a 237.38 to win the 1-meter springboard diving competition. She then posted a score of 243.90 off the 3m board to take that competition as well.

West Chester's divers will be back in action next weekend when they take on Rowan in a dual meet. The swimmers will not be back in the pool until the Rutgers Invitational right before Thanksgiving.
