Carly Yost added a goal and an assist to lead West Chester to a 3-0 victory over Gannon University Friday afternoon in PSAC Tournament semifinal play at Phillipsburg Soccer Complex in California, Pa.
The Golden Rams (13-6) take on host California, Pa. in the championship game Saturday at 1 p.m. West Chester defeated Cal 4-3 on penalty kicks after a scoreless draw in the 2010 finals, to capture its fourth PSAC championship in five years.
The Vulcans (16-2-2) extended their unbeaten streak to 17 games (16-0-1) and advanced to the PSAC Championship for the fourth-straight year (1-1-1), with a 3-2 victory over Shippensburg in penalty kicks, after neither team could score through two overtime periods.
West Chester took the lead after a Lexi Lentz shot hit the cross-bar Saylor was able to get to the rebound and put home her fifth of the year in the 19
th minute.
Yost made it a two goal lead for the Golden Rams in the 40
th minute when her shot deflected off the far post and into the net for her ninth of the year. It was her second of the tournament from
Dana Hunt.
West Chester carried a 2-0 lead to the half, holding Gannon to only one shot on goal.
Freshman
Scarlett Walsh scored her first career goal to make 3-0 in the 80
th minute heading in a cross from Yost to complete the scoring.
Alex Srolis made three saves in the West Chester net to record her eighth shutout of the season. Sarah Geffel made three saves in the Gannon goal.
The Golden Rams dropped a 1-0 decision at Cal two weeks ago, on a goal in the 7
th minute. Both teams managed three shots on goal in the game.
The championship game pits the teams that were ranked first and second in the pre-season coach's poll in the PSAC. It also features two of the stingiest defenses; West Chester has surrendered only 14 goals on the season, while the Vulcans have given up only five league goals in 16 games, and seven overall.
The PSAC Championship games kicks off at 1 p.m. Saturday.
