KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Seniors Alexandra Lennonscored 22 points and Ambreelinne Ortman added 16, but host Kutztown held visiting West Chester scoreless for close to seven minutes late in the second half to come away with an 83-72 victory in the first round of the 2013 PSAC Tournament inside Keystone Arena Saturday afternoon.
West Chester (15-12) ends its campaign while Kutztown (16-11) advances to the PSAC Quarterfinals next Tuesday evening where the fourth-seeded Golden Bears will travel to top-seeded Bloomsburg.
West Chester, which led by as many as nine in the second half, held a 65-59 lead with 10:15 to go. Kutztown rattled off 14 straight points and finished the game on a 27-7 run to pull out the victory.
“This game was definitely a microcosm of the season,” West Chester head coach Deirdre Kane said. “There was this disjointedness to the season. We could never find the answer. We were stuck on 65 (points) for an awfully long time.”
"That's what we've been talking about all year," Lennon commented. "We've had trouble putting 40 minutes of basketball together all season."
The Bears held a 45-28 advantage in rebounds. The Golden Rams took 75 shots in the game, making just 30 (40 percent), while Kutztown dominated the glass at that end – grabbing 33 defensive rebounds.
“We were out-rebounded horribly,” Kane added.
Lennon registered her 19th career double-double in her final college appearance. She grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to add to her 22 points. Brittany Sicinski scored 15 points for West Chester as well.
Natalya Lee led five players in double figures for Kutztown with 20 points. Ashley Wood notched 17 and Advia Campbell had 16. Alyssa Bonenberger notched 12 and Tanejha Smith had 10.
