EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Devon Utterback tossed a four-hit shutout in the opener for visiting West Chester, but host East Stroudsburg responded with a 5-3 victory in the second game to earn a split of the PSAC East softball doubleheader Saturday at Zimbar Field.

West Chester (19-7, 3-1 PSAC East) rode the right arm of Utterback in the opener. She scattered four hits over seven innings while walking two and striking out four.

Eight Golden Rams rapped out nine hits. Ali Vavala went 2-for-4 with a triple and RBI. She was the only Golden Ram to pick up multiple hits. Kelly Anderson, Kim Murl, Erin Quense and Laura Altenburger each had an RBI as well.

In the nightcap, Kate Skokowski (8-6) started and lasted three innings, suffering the loss. She gave up four runs on five hits, walked two and struck out one. Utterback came on and went the rest of the way, giving up one unearned run on two hits, walking one and striking out three.

West Chester plated three runs in the top of the fifth to draw within one, but could never get any closer. Quense had a RBI single in that frame.
