CLERMONT, Fla. – Devon Utterback and Kate Skokowski each tossed complete games for West Chester University as the Golden Rams won a pair of non-league contests in Florida Friday.
West Chester (7-5) defeated Bloomfield (7-2) by the score of 2-1 while also taking down Cedarville (8-6) by the measure of 10-1.
Utterback (2-1) allowed six hits, yielding just one unearned run, in leading the Rams to victory in the opener. She struck out five and did not walk a batter in her best outing of the year so far.
A RBI single by Jess Schuck tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third. Kim Murl then singled home pinch-runer Shauna Byrnes in the sixth with the game-winning run. Utterback then struck out two of the three Deacons in the seventh, retiring the side in order. She sent down the last seven batters in order to finish out the game.
Schuck finished the game 2-for-2 with her RBI.
Against Cedarville, Skokowski (4-4) surrendered one run on four hits. She walked four and struck out six. Offensivley, J.P. Norris was 3-for-4 with three RBI while Kelly Anderson went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Kim Murl went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs.
West Chester scored three runs in the first and added five more in the second to jump on the Yellow Jackets early.
The Golden Rams take on West Liberty Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and then battle Alderson-Broaddus at 1 p.m.
