KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and held on for a series-clinching 2-1 victory over visiting West Chester Saturday afternoon in the second game of the best-of-three NCAA Division II Atlantic Super Regional at North Campus Field.
West Chester (37-21) plated a run in the top of the fifth, but could not get the equalizer. Kutztown (33-21) won the best-of-three series two games to none and advances to the NCAA Division II national finals for the second straight season.
Kelly Anderson hit a run-scoring double to left-center in the fifth with two outs that chased starter Dominique Ficara (18-12). Mary Kociencki came on to get the final out with anymore damage and then finished up the final two innings for her first save of the season.
Devon Utterback (22-11) limited Kutztown to four hits in her final college appearance. She walked three and struck out two. She ends her career with a school-record 371 strikeouts, including another school mark with her 163 strikeouts this season.
Anderson finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate. Ali Vavala, Megan Kelly and Laura Altenburger also registered hits for the Golden Rams.
