West Chester Frustrated in 1-0 Loss to Gannon

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Gannon goalkeeper Sarah Geffel, had to stop two penalty kicks from West Chester freshman Lexi Brown, after she was called for leaving too early on the first penalty. In response to the saves, the Golden Knights stormed up the field and scored the games' lone goal on the ensuing possession, and came away with a 1-0 PSAC triumph, Saturday afternoon in West Chester.

The Golden Rams (1-3-0, 1-3-0 PSAC), who fell for the third consecutive game had numerous chances throughout the contest, but could not finish in front of the Golden Knights goal. Gannon (3-1-0, 3-1-0 PSAC) rebounded from their first setback of the season on Friday at East Stroudsburg, with a solid effort, with Justine Rodrigues scoring the game winner in the 27th minute.
Brown was taken down in the box as she used her speed to get behind the Gannon defense. On Friday, Cara Deola was thwarted early in the match on a penalty that Brown drew, this time it was the freshman who took the penalty, but result remained the same.

Brown was afforded a second opportunity, when Geffel was deemed to have come off her line before the Brown kick.
Given a second chance, Brown attempted to go higher into the left hand corner, but Geffel was up to the task.

West Chester used several different combinations during the match. Marie D'Angelo was called offside when she put an Ashley Saylor cross into the net, early in the second half.

The Golden Rams had much of the play in the Gannon end, but ultimately were never able to find the equalizer.

Maddie Mitchell made her debut in goal for West Chester, turning away five Golden Knight shots. Geffel was stellar in goal for Gannon, recording 16 saves in the shutout.

The Golden Rams return to action Wednesday, when they travel to Lock Haven for a 4:30 start.
