Third-ranked West Chester Upsets No. 2 Shippensburg, 2-1

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Freshman Rachal Toppi (Glassboro, N.J,/Glassboro) scored a pair of goals  as third-ranked West Chester upended No. 2 Shippensburg, 2-1, Saturday on the road.

West Chester (8-2, 6-1 PSAC) handed Shippensburg (8-2, 5-2) its second conference loss and leaped the Raiders in the league standings.

Toppi converted a penalty stroke in the second half, and then had a nice tip in later for the game-winner as the Golden Rams outplayed the Raiders for the majority of the 70 minutes.

Toppi nearly finished off a hat trick late, but her shot sailed just wide.

Sarah Krause (5-2) (Lancaster, Pa. / Conestoga Valley) made five saves in the cage to come away with the win. Shippensburg's Ally Mooney made six stops.

West Chester returns home for a non-league showdown with Limestone College Sunday at 1 pm at Vonnie Gros Field.
