West Chester And Cal Women Fit To Be Tied, 1-1

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Kara Parvel (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) scored in the 77th minute to lift West Chester to a 1-1 tie with visiting California, Pa. following two overtime periods in a PSAC women's soccer contest at Rockwell Field Friday afternoon.

West Chester (14-1-1, 13-1-1 PSAC) fell two points back of division-leading East Stroudsburg, who defeated Slippery Rock in double overtime Friday. The Golden Rams now need to defeat Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon and hope Cal (11-2-4, 10-2-3) can upset East Stroudsburg Saturday, if the Rams want to win the regular-season title.

Parvel finished off a pass from Sara Bennis (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) late in the second half that evened up the game and forced overtime. Neither side was able to score in the two 10-minute sessions, and each came away with a single point in the league standings.

Cal picked up its goal late in the first half when Erin Hogan bent a corner kick inside the far post to put the visitors on top, 1-0.

West Chester goalkeeper Alex Srolis (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) made four saves and got some help from her defense on another to earn the tie. Cal's Meghan Jayes made three saves for the Vulcans.

West Chester hosts Slippery Rock on Saturday at 12 p.m. It will be Senior Day at West Chester as the Golden Rams honor their six graduating seniors in a brief ceremony before the game.
