WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester's women soccer team will enter the NCAA tournament as the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic Region and will host the first round this Friday at noon as well as the second round on Sunday at noon from Rockwell Field.
Tickets to the quarter and semi final matches are $7 for adults, $3 for students and $1 for children. No comp tickets are available. The Golden Rams finished the regular season with a 16-2-1 record.Â
West Chester has flipped the page as it enters the NCAA tournament for the ninth season in a row under head coach Betty Ann Kempf-Townsley and will have another crack at making a deep tournament run. The team is 11-9-4 in the NCAA tournament overall and this is its 12th straight season overall making it into the round of 48.
Senior
Carly Yost (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) will be looked at to lead the Golden Rams'Â offensive attack as she leads the team with 20 points, including seven goals and six assists, along with three game-winners. So., FÂ
Kara Parvel (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) will also be a force around the goal, netting seven goals, including five game-winners in the regular season. She tied Yost for the most goals on the team this fall. Teammates
Marissa Valenti (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) and
Dana Hunt (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) will add pressure on defenses as both added six goals apiece and use their speed in beating other teams for position on the ball.
Senior goalkeeper
Alex Srolis (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) will provide confidence as the backbone of team playing outstanding in the goal throughout the season. She started all 19 games, registering over 1443 minutes and making 156 saves.
The team collectively has outscored opponents by a huge margin of 43-9 while having a shooting advantage of 269-159 as they consistently put pressure on opponent's goalies.
First game will take place between No. 3 Kutztown and No. 6 California (Pa.) on Friday with the winner to play the Golden Rams in the semifinals on Sunday. On the other side of the bracket, PSAC conference champion East Stroudsburg (20-1) holds the No. 1 seed and will have home field into the second round. They will wait for the winner of No. 4 Notre Dame (Ohio) (14-2-2) and No. 5 West Virginia Wesleyan (12-4-2), which plays its quarterfinal match on Friday at noon.
The two winners out of each part of the bracket will play each other on Friday Nov. 21 with Atlantic Regional champion heading off to take on the East Regional champion on Sunday, Nov. 23. A spot in the national semifinals in Louisville, Ky., at the NCAA Division II Festival is at stake in that national quarterfinal.
