Kristina Scherrer (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added a goal and three assists to lead West Chester to a 6-0 win over East Stroudsburg in the first of two PSAC Field Hockey semifinals on a chilly Friday afternoon.
Â
West Chester (17-2) makes its second appearance in the PSAC Championship Game Saturday where the Golden Rams will face Millersville, who was a 2-0 winner over Shippensburg in the other conference semifinal. East Stroudsburg (11-9) struggled to mount much of an offensive attack against West Chester's pressure.
Â
Scherrer was dominant off the Golden Rams' penalty corners, putting her teammates in great field position to set up three of West Chester's six goals.
Â
Teammate
Rachal Toppi (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) contributed as well with her 20th goal of the season on a ball that snuck in after a shot from a difficult angle along the end line.
Â
Hannah Davies (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) began the scoring in the 10th minute to give the Golden Rams the 1-0 lead. She re-directed a pass from Scherrer into the cage while standing on the right post. Tw and a half minutes later, Scherrer notched her unassisted tally to quickly give the hosts a 2-0 lead. With 1:30 to play in the first half, Toppi poked a shot past ESU goalkeeper, Danielle Ard (11-8) to put the Rams in front 3-0 at the break.
Â
Versak and Scherrer teamed up twice more in the second half on virtually identical goals to give the hosts control of the match and leave little doubt as to the eventual outcome. Versak tipped a shot from Scherrer off a penalty corner past new ESU keeper Shelby Drissel one minute into the second half and then again in the 61st minute.
Â
Dayle Paustian (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) finished off the scoring with an unassisted goal in the final eight minutes of the game.
Â
No.1-seeded West Chester will take on No. 2 Millersville (17-2) for the PSAC Championship tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. The Golden Rams and Marauders have faced off twice this year with each earning wins on its home field. It marks the second time in the last three years that West Chester and Millersville have squared off for the conference crown. West Chester defeated Millersville back in 2012 at Vonnie Gros Field for its only PSAC title.
