RALEIGH, N.C.  – Three errors led to six unearned runs as West Chester University dropped an 8-3 decision to Mount Olive College in its season opener at the Shaw Tournament held at the Walnut Creek Complex Saturday afternoon.

West Chester fell behind early, yielding all six unearned runs in the first two frames. The Golden Rams answered with a run in the top of the fourth. But, Mount Olive (5-6) plated a pair in the bottom half of the inning to restore its six-run lead, 8-2. West Chester tacked on two more in the fifth, but that was as close as they would get all day.

It was the Rams' first time outside and it showed against the Trojans, who were playing their 11th game of the season.

Jess Schuck went 2-for-2 with a RBI double while Megan Kelly went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Kim Murl (0-1) got the start inside the circle and was the hard-luck loser. She lasted 1.2 innings, giving up six unearned runs on just three hits. She walked one and struck out one. Katie Erb came on in the second inning and finished up the rest of the way. She allowed two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out two. She also hit three batters.
