RALEIGH, N.C. – Erin Quense's three-run double helped West Chester University to a 6-2 victory over Fairmont State in a rare triple-header at the Shaw Tournament at the Walnut Creek Complex Saturday.
West Chester (2-1) picked up its second win in three games on Saturday while notching another regional victory with a second straight triumph over a Mountain East Conference opponent.
Quense stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs when she delivered a double that cleared the bags and pushed West Chester's 3-0 lead to 6-0. Ali Vavala hit a RBI double in the first and later stole home, before Kim Murl hit a sacrifice fly that put the Rams on top 3-0 in the first inning. Vavala finished 2-for-4 in the game.
Katie Erb (1-0) threw a complete game, allowing two runs on eight hits. She did not walk a batter.
West Chester concludes play at the Shaw Tournament with another regional contest against Shepherd University at 11 a.m.
