West Chester Softball Opens Southern Trip With Pair Of Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – Kim Murl allowed just one run in a complete-game win in the opener, and Hayley Bollinger's 3-run walk-off home run ended the nightcap early as West Chester University's softball team picked up a pair of wins in its first day at the Dot Richardson Spring Games.

West Chester (8-4) defeated Northwood (Mich.) (9-7), 2-1, in the opener while taking down NY Tech, 10-0, in six innings in the second game.

Murl (2-1) went the distance in the opener, scattering seven hits over seven innings and surrendering just one run. She walked one and struck out three to pick up her second win of the season.

Trailing, 1-0, heading into the top of the sixth inning, West Chester struck for two runs after Northwood walked the first two batters of the game. Megan Kelly eventually drew a bases-loaded walk, before Murl knocked in Sarah Walasavage on a ground out with the game-winning run.

West Chester managed just two hits in the game, both by shortstop J.P. Norris. But, Murl kept Northwood down for much of the game and came up with the big hit in the sixth.

In the nightcap, Bollinger hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning that put West Chester in front, 10-0, and ended the game due to the eight-run rule. The Golden Rams scored four runs in the bottom half of the sixth altogether.

Jess Schuck went 2-for-3 while Laura Altenburger scored a pair of runs.

Micaela McSpadden (4-0) picked up the win inside the circle. She pitched four innings. Katie Erb came on in the fifth and finished up for the Rams.
