West Chester Drops Contest To Sioux Falls, 5-4

CLERMONT, Fla. – West Chester  University's softball squad dropped a 5-4 decision to Sioux Falls on Monday morning before the rains hit the area washing out the second game of a split doubleheader with Minnesota-Moorhead.
 
The Golden Rams (10-5) scored a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings each, but could not complete the comeback against the Panthers (10-3), after falling behind 5-0.
 
Kelly Anderson hit a RBI double in the sixth, and Sarah Walasavage scored the other run in the sixth to narrow the deficit to 5-2. Megan Kelly then smashed a two-run homer to left field in the seventh to darw the Rams to within one, but WCU could not come up with the equalizer.
 
Kim Murl (3-2) started the game inside the circle and lasted three innings. She gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out three without walking a batter. Katie Erb came on in relief in the top of the fourth. She went the rest of the way, yielding two runs on two hits. She walked a batter and struck out two.
 
Jill Murray went 3-for-4 with three singles and a run scored. Ali Vavala had the only other hit, aside from Kelly's HR and Begley's RBI double.
 
West Chester (10-5) continues its southern trip on spring break with two more games scheduled for Tuesday and two more after that on Wednesday.
