Box Score 2 Philadelphia, Pa. - Kim Murl picked up two victories and added three hits and two RBI in West Chester University's non-league doubleheader sweep at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia at McNeil Field Tuesday afternoon.
The Golden Rams (31-16) did not allow a run in taking the opener 3-0 and the nightcap 7-0. The Devils (10-24) trailed 1-0 in game 1 going to the seventh, and had a chance to tie of take the lead with the bases loaded in the fourth inning of game two, but could not push a run across the plate.
Kelly Anderson broke a scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly in the fourth to bring home
Kim Begley who led off the frame with a walk.
Laura Altenburger tripled home two runs in the seventh to supply some breathing room for the 3-0 victory in the openinng game.
Micaela McSpadden pitched the first 3.2 innings and left with a runner on and a 1-0 lead in the fourth, when Murl entered, she recorded the final out in the fourth and finished the game allowing just one in hit in 3.1 innings of work and was credited with the win to improve to 12-6. Nicole Ayers allowed just one run in 4 innings but was saddled with the loss to fall to 5-7.

Erin Quense each knocked in two runs in the second half of the twinbill amd Murl and
Katie Erb combined for the shutout.
West Chester took a 1-0 lead in the first when Murl single home J.P. Norris who led the game off with a walk. The Sciences loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth with one out, but Murl induced a groundball back to her to start a 1-2-3 double play to end the threat.
In the top of the fifth West Chester was finally able to add to its lead with a two out triple by Murl to bring home
Jess Schuck, Murray then followed with a single to make it a 3-0 advantage.
Sarah Derstine scored on an Ali Vavala gound out in the sixth to increase the lead to 4-0 and West Chester added three more in the seventh on a RBI single from Murray and a two run single to left from Quense.
Murl went the first five innings allowing only five hits while striking out five to improve to 13-6 on the year and win her 40
th career game. Erb pitched the final two inning relinquishing two hits and recording two strikeouts to complete the combined shutout. Brittney Granahan pitched the first six innings and took the loss for the Devils to fall to 1-5.
West Chester returns to PSAC East action on Friday when it hosts East Stroudsburg on senior day in the final home games of the season.
