West Chester Earns Split With Walk Off Hit By Norris

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- J.P. Norris singled home the winning run to cap a two run seventh inning rally to lead West Chester University to a split in a Saturday afternoon PSAC East doubleheader with Bloomsburg University at South Campus Field.

West Chester (20-11, 9-3 PSAC East) captured the nightcap 3-2 to go 7-1 in four twinbills at home this week. Bloomsburg (11- 8, 3-3 PSAC East) scored a 4-1 victory in the opener behind Taylor Parker, who pitched a complete game and added a home run.

The Golden Rams trailed 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh. Kelly Anderson led off with a solid single to center, with one out Erin Quense drew a walk, Ali Vavala pinch ran at second, and Hayley Bollinger ran for Quense. Char Conaway hit a pinch hit a line drive in the right center field gap to bring home Vavala to tie the game and move Bollinger to third. Norris then hit the first pitch she saw up the middle and into center field to bring home Bollinger and set off the celebration.

Katie Erb worked out of a jam with runners on second and third with only one out in the top of the seventh thanks to a diving stop by Norris at short, who tagged out the runner from third after a rundown to keep it a 2-1 game going to the bottom of the seventh.

Micaela McSpadden started and went four and a third innings allowing two runs on only three hits. Erb replaced her and did not allow a run in two and two thirds innings of work to win her fourth game of the week and improve to 7-6. Parker took the loss in relief to fall to 6-4.

In the opener Parker allowed only a first inning run to pitch a complete game five hitter, she added a double and a home run.

West Chester opened the scoring in the first when Jess Schuck doubled home Norris, the Huskies took the lead in the third with a pair of runs, and added single runs in the fourth and fifth.

Kim Murl fell to 5-3 pitching into the fourth allowing three runs on seven hits; Erb relieved and gave up a run on three hits in her three innings.

Norris went 4-7 scoring twice and knocked in the winning run, Anderson was 3-3 in game 2 and finished 4-6 on the day

West Chester travels to East Stroudsburg on Sunday for a doubleheader with the Warriors in a game originally scheduled for Friday.
