WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Kim Murl hit two home runs on the day and pitched a complete game two hitter in game 1 to lead No.23 West Chester University softball to a non-league doubleheader sweep of the visitors from Bowie State University Wednesday afternoon at South Campus Field.

The Golden Rams (24-11) won the opener 6-0 behind Murl and a five run third inning and took the nightcap 9-0 in four and a half innings as freshman Sam Brinskelle pitched four innings without allowing a hit to pick up her first career victory. Leadoff hitter Cassandra Clayborne reached base four times in the two games for the Bulldogs (7-27).

Sr. outfielder Megan Kelly stole four bases in the two games to become the all-time leader in thefts in Golden Rams history. Kelly who set the West Chester record with 35 steals in 2013 has 77 stolen bases in her career, which is one better than the 76 amassed by Erin MacNamee who played from 2008-2011.

Murl broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with her third long ball of the season over the left field wall with a runner on to make it a 2-0 game. Three batters later Jill Murray drove her third of the year over the center field fence to make it a 5-0 lead.

Pinch runner Erica Mohan stole third and Murl swiped second to bring up Anderson who singled to left to make it a 3-0 lead.

West Chester put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Taylor Ciatto. who caught both ends of the twinbill, singled to open the inning, her second hit of the game, Char Conaway followed with a ringing double to left center. A J.P. Norris groundout brought in Ciatto to make it a 4-0 lead, a couple of fielding miscues made the score 6-0 and West Chester stretched its lead to 8-0 courtesy of another two run blast from Murl, her third home run in four games and fourth of the season.

Micaela McSpadden pitched a hitless the top of the fifth to complete the combined no-hitter and end the game. Brinskelle 1-0 walked three in her four inning of work. Stefanie Ray took the defeat for Bowie State.
