Toppi’s Pair Of Goals Take Down No. 10 Bentley In Opener

Box Score
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Highly touted freshman forward, Rachal Toppi (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro), scored twice in her collegiate debut Friday afternoon as No. 4 West Chester University defeated 10th-ranked Bentley University, 3-1, in the season opener for both schools.

Toppi tipped in a blast from Kristina Scherrer (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) on a penalty corner in the 15th minute of the contest to knot things up at 1-apiece. The freshman phenom then deflected a shot off the stick of Dayle Paustian (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) past Bentley's starting goalkeeper Katie Kelley in the 25th minute to put the Golden Rams on top for good.

Hannah Davies (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) put the game away in the 47th minute with a goal off a penalty corner.

Sophomore goalkeeper, Audree Bonavita (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) made three saves in the cage to record the win. The only blemish to her record was a nice lift-shot from Bentley's Taylor Kane, who was standing just inside the top of the circle. Kane's lift snuck in just under the crossbar and past the outstretched arms of Bonavita.

Kelley made 12 saves and allowed a pair of goals in 56 minutes of work in the cage for Bentley. Evelyn Schaedel relieved Kelley at the start of the second half and played 14 minutes, making a pair of saves and allowing one goal.

West Chester held a 22-2 advantage in penalty corners and a 31-6 edge in shots.

West Chester returns home on Sunday to take on Lindenwood at Vonnie Gros Field at 12 p.m.
