West Chester’s Bench Sparks Win Over Cheyney, 83-46

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester received huge contributions from its bench to defeat Cheyney, 83-46, inside Hollinger Field House Wednesday evening.
 
The Golden Rams (14-3, 10-3 PSAC) were down by five (11-6) in the opening minutes of the game, before taking off to tie it at 12-12 and eventually going on a 10-0 run to close out the half with a 14-point lead. Cheyney (3-15, 3-10 PSAC) could not recover, only getting to the free throw line seven times while turning the ball over 25 times.
 
Fr., G Porscha Speller (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) scored a team-high 14 points, nine in the second half, to go with four steals, three rebounds and two steals. Serifat Junaid (Chesilhurst, N.J./Camden Catholic)  matched a season-high 13 points, shooting 50-percent from the field and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.              
 
Anna Kuntz (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) created problems for the Wolves down in the low post, scoring 12 points and grabbing six rebounds in the win. Mariah Powell (Glen Mills, Pa./Mount St. Mary's) provided 11 points and five rebounds, including the basket to jump start the Golden Rams' engines, after being tied at 12. West Chester went on an 11-6 run to open the second half and to stretch its lead to as big as 30 points.
 
Leading scorers, Brittany Sicinski (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and Dallas Ely (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) were held to 12 points and eight rebounds combined, but the Golden Rams depth came alive to lead the team to victory down the stretch.
 
Wolves' Kyra Hines-Allen recorded a team-high 17 points, shooting 7-for-11 from the field and grabbing seven rebounds. Kia Whitley-Duncan shot 6-of-8 for 13 points to round out the double-figure scoring in the loss for Cheyney.
 
The Golden Rams are on the road for three games against PSAC East opponents, first taking on Mansfield this Saturday at 1 p.m. in their first meeting of the season.
