WEST CHESTER, Pa. -
Kendall Somer (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) picked up one win and added two more seconds, but West Chester fell to visiting Penn, 187-107, in a non-league women's swim meet inside Graham Natatorium Friday night.
Somer captured the 1000-yard freestyle in 10 minutes, 37.11 seconds.
Alexis Walley (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and
Dani Barron (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, as well. Somer also finished runner-up in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:06.82 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:25.12. Mid-season transfer,
Claudia Owczarz (Germany), won the 100 backstroke in her first college meet, touching the wall in 58.25 seconds. She, then, took first in the 200 backstroke in 2:09.78.
Lauren Carastro (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) picked up a win in the 200 individual medley, touching out in 2:18.10.
Kimberly Brownrigg (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
Lauren Keenan (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) were second and third behind Carastro as well.
Owczarz led off the 200 free relay team that also was a winner Friday in 1:39.52. She teamed with
Emily Stang (Allentown, Pa./Parkland),
Tess Hayward (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and
Morgan Haney (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) for that win.
West Chester travels to New York City and NYU on Feb. 6-7 for its final tune-up before the 2015 PSAC Championships Feb. 20-23.
