No. 10 West Chester Splits A Pair Of Games In Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. - Laura Altenburger and Micaela McSpadden each homered, and Katie Erb threw a complete game, to lead West Chester to an 8-0 win in 5 innings over Queens (NY) in the second of two games Wednesday. Erin Whitman homered in the first game, but it was not enough as Charleston topped the Golden Rams, 4-3.

West Chester (7-3), ranked 10th in the country in the latest NFCA national poll, witnessed its bats come alive against Queens. The Rams rapped out eight hits, including a double, triple and two home runs. Meanwhile, Erb allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out two to pick up the win inside the circle. Altenburger hit her 3-run shot in the second inning. McSpadden hit her 2-run homer in the third, which was followed by a triple from Hayley Bollinger, who reached base safely all three times to the plate, scoring twice.

In the opener, West Chester scored twice in the fifth and once more in the sixth, but could never finish the comeback. Charleston added a pair of runs in the sixth inning that put them on top, 4-1, and proved to be the decisive runs. Whitman finished 2-for-4 in the win while Sarah Derstine also picked up two hits.
