Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - West Chester University defeated Concordia-St. Paul, 8-6, before knocking off Merrimack University, 8-1, in a pair of non-league softball games at the Dot Richardson Spring Games at the National Training Center Thursday evening.
West Chester (9-3) has won three straight as the Golden Rams finish up play down south during spring break on Friday.
In the opener, Micaela McSpadden hit a two-run single in the sixth inning that put West Chester in front for good at 7-6 while Erin Whitman doubled in an insurance run in the seventh. Pinch hitter, Char Conaway hit a bases-clearing, three-run double, in the fifth inning that pulled the Golden Rams even at 5-all as the Rams scored six of their eight runs in the game in their final three at bats.
Amanda Houck (3-1) picked up the win, throwing three innings in relief and giving up just one unearned run on three hits.
In the nightcap, Laura Altenburger hit her second home run of the season as West Chester topped Merrimack. Brooke Harner (3-2) got the win inside the circle. Whitman continued her hot hitting, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.
