Softball Drops Doubleheader At Wilmington

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILMINGTON, Del. - West Chester University dropped both ends of a doubleheader on the road at Wilmington (Del.) Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Rams fell by scores of 7-6 and 8-5.

West Chester (10-6), playing its first games up north, allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning that gave game one to Wilmington (9-6). The Golden Rams left the a runner at third in the top half of the eighth that would have potentially given them a cushion to work with in the bottom half. A five-run sixth for West Chester in game two pulled the visitors back into the contest at 7-5, but the Wildcats tacked on one more insurance run and held their guests in the seventh.

One West Chester error led to four unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning for Wilmington. Freshman hurler Brooke Harner (3-5) suffered the loss in both games. However, she surrendered just one earned run in 3.1 innings of work in the nightcap and did not walk a batter. The game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth of game one was also unearned.

Sarah Walasavage went 3-for-7 in the twinbill with a triple, a pair of runs scored and a RBI.

West Chester will return home on Thursday for a PSAC East contest against Mansfield at 2:30 p.m. on South Campus. That conference doubleheader was originally scheduled for Friday. However, the weather forecast for Friday is not good, so the two schools agreed to move the games up one day.
