Box Score 2 WEST CHESTER, Pa. - West Chester's softball squad ran its win streak to eight straight with a non-league doubleheader sweep over visiting Philadelphia University on a cold and rainy Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Rams downed the Rams by scores of 2-1 and 7-1 in five innings.
West Chester (18-6) has not allowed more than one run in any of its eight straight victories. Philadelphia U drops to 5-9 on the season with the two losses. Game two was shortened to five innings due to rain.
Laura Altenburger's third home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning stood up as the winning run in game one. Her RBI single in the fourth tied the game at 1-1. The junior third baseman recorded both of West Chester's RBI in the win.
Amanda Houck (7-1) allowed one run on three hits in a complete-game effort. She walked one and struck out five.
Fellow freshman Brooke Harner (6-5) registered the win in the nightcap. She scattered five hits over four innings, yielding one run while striking out three and not walking anybody. Katie Erb pitched the fifth.
Freshman catcher Cat Hammer hit her first career home run in the bottom of the fifth, before the skies opened up and washed out the rest of the contest. Hammer was 3-for-3 with a single and a double as well. Sarah Walasavage went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI and a pair of runs scored. She tripled in the game.
