Box Score 2 SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg jumped out early in game one, and had an answer each time in game two, en route to a 7-1 and 6-3 doubleheader sweep over visiting West Chester in PSAC softball play Friday.

West Chester (18-8, 4-2 PSAC East) saw its eight-game winning streak come to a close while Shippensburg improved to 8-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Shippensburg scored three runs in the first and three more in the third to jump out to a 6-0 lead in the opener. The Raiders tacked on one more in the fifth, before West Chester could answer in the sixth with its lone tally. In the nightcap, West Chester scored once in the top of the first and two more in the second. However, Shippensburg answered with one of its own in the bottom half of the first and then put up three in its half of the second to take a 4-3 lead after two that the Raiders would not relinquish.

Sarah Derstine was a combined 3-for-7 with a home run in the doubleheader. Her and Erin Whitman collected the only two hits in game one for the Golden Rams. Derstine's solo shot in the sixth was West Chester's lone run.

Amanda Houck (7-2) suffered the loss in the opener. She lasted 2.1 innings, surrendering six runs, four of them earned, on three hits while walking two and striking out one. Micaela McSpadden allowed one run on a pair of hits in 1.1 innings. Ashley Flesch finished up, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings.

Fellow freshman, Brooke Harner (6-6) took the loss in the nightcap. She lasted 1.2 innings, yielding four runs on three hits. Houck came on in relief and went the rest of the way, giving up two runs on four hits.

West Chester returns home on Sunday for a PSAC East doubleheader against East Stroudsburg that was originally scheduled for Saturday. However, cold temperatures and wind chill factors that won't let temps get out of the 20s are expected for Saturday.
