Box Score 2 WEST CHESTER, Pa. - On a cold and sunny Sunday afternoon West Chester's
Laura Altenburger (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) came out swinging, hitting two home runs as the Golden Rams rattled off their fifth doubleheader sweep of the season, defeating PSAC rival East Stroudsburg 2-1 in game one and 11-3 in game two.
Â
It was the tale of two games for the Golden Rams (20-8, 6-2 PSAC East) as they used two different styles to pullout the sweep. An outstanding pitching performance in game one, and an offense explosion in game two, powered West Chester to the league sweep. East Stroudsburg (9-6, 2-2) could not get the bats going all day.
Â
Altenburger had a huge day for the Golden Rams going a combined 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI against East Stroudsburg pitching. She opened up the scoring with her fourth home run of the season in the fourth inning of game one. Standing in the box with a runner on second and two outs, she gave the Golden Rams the early 2-0 lead.
Â
Then in the second game, as the Golden Rams were holding on to a one-run lead (4-3), Altenburger got into the first pitch she saw in the bottom of the fifth that sparked the Golden Rams on to a seven-run fifth, which put the eight-run rule into effect and ended the contest early.Â
Â
Sophomore,
Micaela McSpadden (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) went 1-for-6, but that one hit was huge with her second home run of the season, while grabbing two RBI, for a three-run lead in the third.
Â
West Chester's freshman pitching duo spurred on the Golden Rams once more as
Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) improved to 8-2 on the season, allowing only one run on seven hits in seven innings to lead off the doubleheader and pick up her third complete game of the year. Then it was,
Ashley Flesch's (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) turn where she allowed three runs on five hits, but was able to pitch a scoreless top of the third and fifth to allow her team to add some insurance down the line.
Â
Warriors' Carra Woods went 2-for-5 in the doubleheader with a home run to bring her team within one going into the bottom of the fourth of game one. Mary Wallick went 3-for-7, adding a double and two RBI in the loss. Â
Â
The Golden Rams will now travel to PSAC East rival Bloomsburg for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
