Box Score 2 WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Right fielder,
Ali Vavala (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) went 2-for-5 on the day, including n RBI-double in extra-innings of game two to help the Golden Rams split their PSAC East softball doubleheader with Lock Haven Sunday afternoon on South Campus.
In the nightcap, West Chester (27-11, 11-5 PSAC East) grabbed an early lead in the shape of five runs. However, Lock Haven battled back with help from the long ball, hitting one each in the fifth and sixth innings when Lock Haven (9-15, 5-5 PSAC) scored two and three runs, respectively, to tie things up at 5-5 after seven. That set the stage for Vavala's walk-off double and a 6-5 win for the Golden Rams that helped the hosts earn the split.
West Chester dropped the opener, 4-2, when Lock Haven's Paige Stuppy hit a two-out, grand slam in the top of the seventh.
Sarah Derstine (Telford, Pa./Souderton) went 3-for-7 on the day with triple, two RBIs, and a run scored.
Madison Kelly (Whitehall, PA / Whitehall) went 2-for-7 with walk and two stolen bases, allowing her teammate to knock her in for three runs. Leadoff hitter
Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa. / Minersville) added a triple to the mix and scored two runs, while knocking in one.
Both teams were scoreless for 4 ½ innings of play until a fielding error allowed the Golden Rams to score two runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Bald Eagles would go quietly in the top of the sixth, but begin their rally in the seventh inning as with the bases packed and two outs in the inning, Lock Haven's Paige Stuppy launched a grand-slam to put her team up two with West Chester going down 4-2 in game one.
West Chester finishes its three-day PSAC East doubleheader stretch Monday afternoon against Millersville on South Campus beginning at 2:30 p.m.
