West Chester Splits Softball Doubleheader With Bloomsburg

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – West Chester University's softball squad won the opener of a PSAC East doubleheader, 4-1, but dropped game two, 5-3, to split with host Bloomsburg at Jan Hutchinson Field Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Rams (34-13, 18-7 PSAC East) put up a three-spot in the third inning of game one to stamp at least a split in the doubleheader. However, that is exactly how they fell in game two as the Huskies (18-10, 13-5 PSAC), after trailing 2-0 early, came back to tie the ballgame at 2-2 going into the sixth inning. West Chester scored a run in the top-half of the inning. But, Bloomsburg put up a three-spot in the bottom half to grab a game two victory.

Amanda Houck notched her ninth complete-game and 16th win of the season in the opener. She gave up only one run on two hits and did not walk a batter. At the plate, Sarah Derstine went 2-for-7 on the day with two runs scored a RBI and a walk. Erin Whitman also went 2-for-7, hitting a double and knocking in three runs. Micaela McSpadden went 2-for-6 with a home run and two RBI.

With the win in the opener, West Chester clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament. The Golden Rams are currently in first place in the Eastern Division standings.

West Chester will now wait six days before traveling to Lock Haven for a doubleheader at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Then, the Golden Rams head home that night to wrap up the regular season against Kutztown on Saturday at 1 pm.
