Box Score 2 WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester's softball team split games with PSAC East rival Bloomsburg where both teams shut out the other in Thursday afternoon's doubleheader on South Campus. Bloomsburg took game one, 7-0, before West Chester rebounded for a 5-0 blanking in game two.
The Golden Rams (21-9, 7-3 PSAC) seemed to be in control in game one for
Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) who threw four scoreless innings until the Huskies offense, with help from a fielding error, scored four runs in the top of the fifth. Bloomsburg (7-7, 2-2 PSAC) pitcher Tony Parker pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out six for the Huskies in game one.
In game two, West Chester struck back with a similar sequence of events. Pitcher
Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) threw an impressive one-hitter to give her teammates a chance for a split. The offense answered in the fifth inning when
Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) came to the plate and belted the ball over the left-center field fence for her second home run of the season to give the Golden Rams a 1-0 lead.
West Chester loaded the bases in the sixth when
Laura Altenburger (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) singled to put another run on the board. That would set the stage for pinch-hitter
Erin Quense (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) cleared the bases with a three-run double to secure the split with a 5-0 victory in the game two.
West Chester heads to Kutztown Saturday as Friday's doubleheader with Lock Haven has been postponed.
