Box Score QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – West Chester University's softball team fell to California (Pa.) by a score of 6-0 Saturday afternoon in the PSAC Tournament inside Veterans Park.
CAL's (33-10) starting pitcher Alex Sagl kept the Golden Rams lineup off balance the entire game completing a two-hit shutout while giving up three walks. She was dominant early, striking out nine batters for the first nine outs of the game toward a total of 14 strikeouts. West Chester's (40-14) offense was unable to put a string of hits together, getting their first hit in the fourth inning. The team will now wait to see where they will end up in the NCAA Tournament's Atlantic Regional.
The Golden Rams found themselves down 2-0 in the second inning after a pair of RBI singles from the Vulcans. Starting pitcher, Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) was relieved by Katie Erb (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) to get the final out and keep the runs off the board.
Cal's Emily Price hit a grand-slam to increase the Vulcans' lead to 6-0.
Price had four RBIs on the day to lead Cal, which advanced to the PSAC Championship game against Gannon later in the afternoon.
Golden Rams'Â Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) went 1-for-3 with a double, while Laura Altenburger (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) provided a 1-for-2 line and a walk.
West Chester will now sit back and wait for their name to be called as part of the NCAA Tournament Atlantic Regional selection process.
