EWING TWP., N.J. - Tess Hayward (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) won a pair of events and placed second in another, but it was not enough as visiting West Chester fell to Johns Hopkins, 151-109, at the TCNJ Aquatics Center on the campus of The College of New Jersey Wednesday afternoon.
West Chester (4-4) showed depth with six second-place finishes, to go along with a first-place effort from
Emelie Johansson (Taby, Sweden) in the 400-yard individual medley. The Golden Rams placed swimmers third through sixth in the 100 backstroke and third through fifth in the 100 butterfly. But, the Blue Jays were too much to overcome.
Hayward touched the wall first in the 1000 freestyle clocking a time of 10 minutes, 40.75 seconds. Her time of 5:11.44 in the 500 free was also good for first place. Teammate
Dani Barron (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) was right behind her in second with a time of 5:24.13. Hayward was runner-up in the 100 free with a time of 55.22 seconds.
Golden Rams' swimmers took second, third and fourth place in the 200 free.
Sydney Wareham (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) led the contingent to the wall with a 1:58.08.
Emily Stang (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) was next with a 2:02.02 while
Kellen Redcay (Reading, Pa./Wilson) was fourth with a 2:02.71. Stang also finished second in the 50 free (25.37) and third in the 100 free (55.63).
Morgan Haney (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was right behind Stang in third place in the 50 free (25.51).
Johansson was runner-up in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:28.62.
Megan Burns (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) earned a pair of second-place showings in the 500 free and the 400 IM.
Elizabeth Miller (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) was second in the 200 backstroke in 2:17.12.
The women's swimmers head to The Sunshine State on Thursday and will compete in the South Florida Relays on Sunday.
