West Chester Advances In NCAAs With 2-1 Win Over East Stroudsburg

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Julie Kirkpatrick (Brick, N.J./Brick Twp.) scored in the 78th minute, and host West Chester held on the rest of the way for a 2-1 victory over East Stroudsburg in the second round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament at Rockwell Field Sunday.
 
West Chester (19-0-1) moves on to the Atlantic Region final where it will face Kutztown (18-4) next Friday afternoon at Rockwell Field. Kutztown defeated Charleston (W.Va.) 1-0 in the other Atlantic Region semifinal.
 
Kirkpatrick scored her first college goal off an opportunity set up by a corner kick. Kirkpatrick's header off the corner hit the cross bar and fell to the ground in a mass of players. East Stroudsburg tried to clear the ball, but Kirkpatrick knocked down the clear attempt and booted a shot into the right side of the net past a diving Jules Harris for ESU.
 
East Stroudsburg had tied the game three minutes after halftime when Molly Vicari re-directed a cross from Liia Carpenter into the Golden Rams' net.
 
West Chester's Carly Henry (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) put the hosts on top in the 13th minute when she hammered a ball from about 24 feet into the far upper left-hand corner of the net, catching Harris off her line.
 
Alex Srolis (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) made seven saves in net for West Chester while Harris made two.
