West Chester Softball Picks Up Two More Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - In sunny Myrtle Beach at the Snowbird Tournament, West Chester softball picked up two wins Saturday against West Liberty, 11-2 in 5 innings, and Molloy (7-3) to improve to 4-0 early in the season.

In game one, Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) (1-0) got the ball and threw five complete in the Rams third consecutive mercy-rule victory. Harner recorded eight of her 15 outs via the strikeout while allowing two runs.

WCU (4-0) got on the board early with a lone run in the bottom of the first and tacked on five more in the bottom of the third to build a 6-0. West Liberty responded with two runs of its own in the top of the fourth inning. However, WCU answered right back with another five-run bottom of the fourth to halt the game early.

Freshman Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) reached base in all three of her game one plate appearance and scored three runs. Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) scored two runs and added a pair of RBI. Sarah Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) crossed the plate twice and knocked in three WCU base runners. Monica Twardowski (Boothwyn, Pa./Padua Academy) went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

In a 7-3 victory over Molloy, Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Kelly also swiped two bases. Micaela McSpadden (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) was 3-for-4 and scored once for the Rams.

Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) (2-0) picked up her second win of the season inside the circle in game two, and Katie Erb (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) pitched in relief of Houck.

West Chester returns to action Sunday with games against Winston-Salem State (10 a.m.) and New Haven (12 p.m.).
