Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - West Chester softball added another two wins to its 2016 resume on Sunday at the Snowbird Classic in Myrtle Beach. WCU (6-0) defeated Winston-Salem State in the first game by a score of 10-3. The Rams would follow that win with a 2-0 pitchers duel victory against New Haven.

After 26 innings of 2016 softball, WCU found themselves trailing for the first time this season when WSSU cleared the bases with a double in the top of the third.
Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) (2-0) was called upon to stop the early damage. In five innings of relief inside the circle, Harner limited the WSSU offense to one hit and kept them from crossing the plate again.

Laura Altenburger (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) sparked the Rams offense with her first home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth. Soon after,
Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa/Minersville) knocked in two runners with a double to the gap to tie the game at 3-3.

Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) would plate the go-ahead run with an RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth to pull ahead 4-3. Hammer would later score on a wild pitch and push the lead to 5-3.

The Rams would add five more insurance runs. Three of those insurance runs coming from the bat of
Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove). Herion belted her third home run of her freshman campaign.

In game two,
Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) (3-0) picked up her second complete-game shutout of the season in a pitchers duel between two unbeaten teams. Houck scattered four hits and struck out four batters, without issuing a walk.

New Haven entered the game with early season wins against California (Pa.), Lock Haven and Shippensburg. However, WCU put a stop to their early season success versus the PSAC.Â

Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and
Monica Twardowski (Boothwyn, Pa./Padua Academy) both had multi-hit games, which included a triple.

West Chester is back on the diamond next weekend in the Hawks Softball Classic at Murfreesboro, N.C. WCU will play a Saturday doubleheader with Barton College and a Sunday doubleheader with Chowan University
