Golden Rams Sweep Non-Conference Twinbill Against Holy Family

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - A two RBI single off the bat of Micaela McSpadden (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) in game one and a two-out RBI triple from Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) in game two were key to the Golden Rams sweep of Holy Family. West Chester took game one by a score of 3-2, and followed with a 2-0 shutout in game two.

No. 17 WCU (22-3) received two outstanding performances inside the circle from Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett Square) and Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley).

After surrendering a leadoff home run in game one, Harner (8-0) allowed only three additional hits in her 6.1 innings inside the circle. The sophomore pitcher gave up two runs, one of which was earned, on four hits and two walks. Harner struck out three Holy Family batters.

Houck would enter game one in the top half of the seventh and earn her second save of the season. Houck (9-3) went the distance in game two recording her ninth complete game and fourth shutout of the season.  The southpaw allowed four hits, walked two and struck out seven.

A Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) double scored Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) in the bottom half of the first inning in game one to tie the game at 1-1.

An unearned run gave Holy Family a 2-1 edge in the top of the third.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, McSpadden singled to score pinch runner Shannon Gray (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) and Kelly, giving WCU a 3-2 lead.

Both McSpadden and Kelly reached base in all three of their game one plate appearances.

West Chester scored two runs on three hits in game two. Kelly was responsible for two of the three Golden Rams' game two hits.

Scoreless through four and a half innings, Kelly smacked a line drive triple to right center in the bottom of the fifth that scored Gray. The Golden Rams tacked on an unearned run for a 2-0 lead. The two fifth inning runs were the only runs of the game.

Madison Kelly was 3-for-4 on the day with two walks, reaching base in all but one plate appearance.

West Chester opens conference play on Saturday, hosting Millersville (13-9, 1-1). Games are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. starts.
